We are now hiring a part time associate in The Market to work in our newly renovated area! We are looking for candidates who enjoy activities like gardening and home decorating and can help guests shopping with us to find exactly what they need. Our customers are friendly and we want a candidate who will enjoy talking with them not just to sell product, but to make sure our customers have the best shopping experience possible!

Essential Duties

  • Provide excellent customer service
  • Cover cashier duties when required
  • Receive and place product
  • Help maintain merchandise displays

Hard Goods Department Head

We are now hiring a department head for our Hard Goods department! We are looking for candidates that will show dignity and respect, and have a cooperative attitude with coworkers and fellow managers. Our ideal candidate knows about pesticides and fertilizers, and how to apply them. The ideal candidate also knows how to identify pests, diseases, and weeds and can teach customers how get rid of them. You will build and lead a strong, unified team whose goal is to provide customers with the best shopping experience possible.

Oversight of the department

  • Plan, organize, direct, control, and coordinate the activities of the hard goods team
    • Create daily and weekly work lists
    • Plan weekly work schedule
  • Interview, hire, train, and evaluate Hard Goods team
  • Know, practice, and explain safety regulations and procedures
  • Display and organize department product
    • Order product making sure that appropriate documentation is given to the receiving department in a timely manner
    • Have knowledge of stock on hand versus what inventory is needed according to each season
  • Sell product and plan special promotions; provide information to customers on the care of the purchased product
  • Maintain and project proper inventory levels
  • Confer with Inventory staff for tracking sales
  • Streamline and change the repetition and flow of the area you are in charge of when necessary for the betterment of the company

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required

  • Ability to identify diseases, weeds, and pests, and the willingness to teach your team how to identifies these things
  • Knowledge of pesticides and fertilizers along with how to apply them, and the willingness to teach your team this
  • Knowledge of regulating irrigation systems, and the willingness to teach your team this
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees and management
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery, including a skid steer and forklift, or a willingness to learn

Education and Experience

  • Experience working in a retail environment
  • 1-2 years of supervisory or team lead experience

Physical Demands

  • Reach, walk, stand, squat, bend, crawl
  • Able to lift up to 80 pounds and carry for short distance
  • Able to work in an outside environment which will vary from very hot to very cold conditions

Reporting to and supporting the Hard Goods Department Head, the team lead position is the right hand to the department head. The team lead acts on the department head’s behalf, on occasion.

  • Assure the department laborers and working and learning the tasks to ensure customers are receiving excellent service and tasks are people completed efficiently

Seasonal Cashier

Martin’s Home & Garden is looking for hardworking, energetic, and positive team members to join us for the Fall 2018 season! Here at Martin’s, our customers are the most important part of our business. As a cashier, you are responsible for their final impression! This means product knowledge may not be your strongest skill, but your customer service should always be 110%.

Responsibilities include providing prices of bagged and bulk product, scheduling deliveries, checking the answering machine, and greeting customers! It is also not unusual to assist other departments with caring for plants when needed. Previous experience with customer service is not necessary, but it’s definitely a plus!

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Cheerfully greet customers and be able to give information about loyalty program and NSF check policy if asked
  • Process sales and returns on a point of sale cash register
  • Count money and make change, having a good knowledge of basic mathematics
  • Perform other duties when asked such as sweeping, taking out trash, or stocking shelves with product

Skills & Abilities

  • Able to type alpha/numeric accurately at 25 characters per minute
  • Able to lift and carry merchandise up to 30lbs

Seasonal Greenhouse Laborer

Martin’s Home & Garden is looking for hardworking, energetic, and positive team members to join us for the Fall 2018 season! This job is ever-changing and exciting. You will be responsible for maintaining and caring for pumpkins, fall flowers like chrysanthemums and pansies, decorative corn, cold crop veggies, and many other live products.

Here at Martin’s, the most important component of our business is our customers. You will be responsible for assisting customers in finding the best products, tailoring your suggestions to their skill level and growing conditions (light levels, type of soil, size, etc.). A passion for plants is not necessary, but it’s definitely a plus!
